CCI clears Central Bank's addl stake in Generali Central insurance ventures

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the Central Bank of India's acquisition of additional shareholding of 1.09% in Generali Central Insurance Company and 0.82% in Generali Central Life Insurance Company . This approval follows Central Bank of India's prior acquisition of a 25.18% equity stake in Generali Central Life Insurance and a 24.91% stake in Generali Central Insurance in June of the previous year.Mumbai-based Generali Central Insurance Company and Generali Central Life Insurance Company operate under the unified ‘Generali Central’ brand as joint ventures with Italy’s Assicurazioni Generali. In August 2024, Central Bank of India emerged as the successful bidder for Category 1 assets of Future Enterprises Ltd in both life and non-life insurance ventures with Generali.Generali Central Insurance Company offers retail, commercial, personal, and rural insurance solutions, while Generali Central Life Insurance Company offers term, savings, child, retirement, wealth creation, and group life insurance plans.
In Jun 2025, the Central Bank of India acquired a 24.91% stake in Future Generali India Insurance Company for USD 52 M and a 25.18% stake in Future Generali India Life Insurance for USD 6 M.For FY25, Future Generali India Life Insurance had reported about INR 130 Cr in Operating Income and about INR 6 Cr in Net Loss.For FY25, Future Generali India Insurance Company had reported about INR 190 Cr in Operating Income and about INR 94 Cr in PAT.
