Lionsgate sells OTT streaming biz in South, SE Asia to Rohit Jain in $30-M deal
Lionsgate has divested its Mumbai-based over-the-top (OTT) streaming business, Lionsgate Play , in South Asia and Southeast Asia to Rohit Jain. The estimated deal value is USD 30 million. Jain, formerly President of Lionsgate Play Asia, will assume full ownership of the platform as part of this transaction. The sale aligns with Lionsgate's strategy to exit non-core international streaming operations, excluding Canada and India, and concentrate on intellectual property creation and content production.Lionsgate Play is an OTT streaming business that Rohit Jain built in the region. The acquisition places Lionsgate Play under founder-led ownership, with a continued focus on Asia’s digital entertainment market, particularly India. Under a multi-year agreement, Lionsgate will license the Lionsgate Play brand name and provide access to its film and television catalogue.Lions Gate Play LLP, the operator of Lionsgate Play in India, reported a net loss of INR 26 crore in FY25, a 57% decline, with operating revenue decreasing by over 7% to INR 75 crore.
