Maruti to acquire Suzuki's Gujarat plant to make EVs

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) is set to acquire a manufacturing plant from its Japanese parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC). The plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat, was run by Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), a subsidiary of SMC. It has been manufacturing cars such as the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and Nexa Fronx for MSIL under a contract manufacturing agreement (CMA) signed in 2015. Post deal, electric vehicle (EV) production would be handled by MSIL instead of SMG.
