Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Ltd (BBTCL), the plantation division of Mumbai-headquartered Wadia Group, plans to exit the business by putting up for sale 927 ha (2290 acres) of coffee plantations in Karnataka. BBTCL has roped in real estate consultancy firm Colliers International for advice on the valuation of the business and potential buyers. As part of the exit plan, BBTCL is looking to make an outright sale of eight of its coffee plantations in Kodagu district of Karnataka. These produce about 627 tonnes of clean coffee annually. These are staffed by about 100 permanent workers and another 400 on contractual basis. The plantations have been incurring losses over the last 3-4 years.
