Solar panel maker Orb Energy raises $2-M from KawiSafi Ventures to expand Africa biz

Bengaluru-based solar panel maker Orb Energy has raised USD 2 million from Africa-based KawiSafi Ventures.Founded in 2006 by Damian Miller and NP Ramesh, Orb Energy is a vertically integrated solar company with operations in India and Kenya. It manufactures solar panels at its Bengaluru facility and maintains its Africa headquarters in Nairobi.The company plans to use the capital to support its growing project pipeline in Kenya and the wider region. Specifically, the funds will assist in transitioning projects from the development and contracting stages into construction and commissioning.

Between Jun 2011 and Oct 2022, Orb Energy had attracted about USD 45 M from FMO, Shell Technology Ventures, DEG, DFC, and Bamboo Finance.For FY25, Orb Energy had reported about INR 229 Cr in Operating Income and about INR 10 Cr in Net Loss.
