Aditya Birla Group to invest $500-M in Vodafone Idea
Aditya Birla Group plans to invest Rs.4,730-Cr (about $500-M) in telecom operator Vodafone Idea . The transaction is to be executed through a preferential allotment of convertible warrants to Suryaja Investments, a Singapore-based entity of the Aditya Birla Group. Following the full conversion of these warrants, the investor will hold up to a 3.82% stake in Vodafone Idea.Vodafone Idea operates as a joint venture between UK-based Vodafone and the Aditya Birla Group, acting as the third-largest telecom operator in India by market share. The company plans to use the new capital to strengthen its financial position and support ongoing efforts to compete with industry rivals, including investments into network quality and 5G expansion.
For FY25, Vodafone Idea had reported about INR 43,157 Cr in Operating Income and about INR 27,442 Cr in Net Loss.
