API manufacturer Embio raises $50-M from True North

Private Equity firm True North, via its True North’s Fund VI, has acquired a 25% stake in Mumbai-based pharmaceuticals firm Embio for USD 50 million. Avendus acted as the financial advisor to Embio for the transaction.Founded in 1986 by Devesh Malladi, Embio manufactures APIs (active pharmaceutical ingredients) and intermediates focused on regulated markets. Embio’s portfolio spans multiple therapeutic areas, including nasal decongestants, ADHD, Parkinson’s disease, anti-epileptics, and anti-HIV drugs. It claims to have a customer base across more than 80 global markets.The company plans to use the new funds to support research and development (R&D) and finance capacity expansion at its upcoming manufacturing facility in Dahej, Gujarat. The capital will also be used to scale its contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) business.
For FY25, Embio had reported about INR 270 Cr in Operating Income and about INR 39 Cr in PAT.
