Brookfield commissions first solar project in India with 445 MW capacity
Brookfield Renewable India announced the successful commissioning of its first greenfield project in India, a 445 MW solar plant, near Jodhpur, Rajasthan. NTPC will offtake this power under a 25-year PPA (power purchase agreement) for onward sale to Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company and Puducherry Electricity Department. The project will generate over 800 GWh (giga watt hours) of clean energy annually, enabling avoidance of 600,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. With full commissioning of the plant, Brookfield's operational renewable energy portfolio in India will be 1 GW.
From the Venture Intelligence PE-VC Deal Database: In June-20, Canadian investment firm Brookfield Asset Management had bought out Emami Power, the solar power business of Kolkata-based diversified conglomerate Emami Group. Emami Group has 11 MW of solar power projects in Karnataka, 10 MW at Charanka Solar Park, Gujarat, 3.3 MW of solar power project in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, and a 22.5 MW solar power project in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand.
