Canada's Telus acquires data annotation startup Playment
Vancouver, Canada-based, NYSE-listed digital customer experience (DCX) firm Telus International has acquired Bengaluru-based Playment, a data annotation and computer vision tools and services firm specializing in 2D and 3D image, video and LiDAR (light detection and ranging). Playment provides fully managed data annotation services that include AI strategy consulting and a SaaS-based platform that transforms videos and images into annotated data to support a broad range of use cases, ranging from computer vision and data categorization to search relevance. It has received funding from Elevation Capital (formerly SAIF Partners) and Y Combinator.
From the Venture Intelligence PE-VC Deal Database: Between May-16 and Nov-17, Sparkland Capital and Elevation Capital had invested more than INR 19 crore in Playment.
