NewQuest buys controlling stake in animation co Cosmos-Maya; KKR Emerald Media exits

NewQuest Capital Partners, a Hong Kong-based secondaries focused PE firm backed by US-based TPG Capital, has acquired a controlling interest in Mumbai-based animation production company Cosmos-Maya. The transaction reportedly values Cosmos-Maya, which owns animation IPs like Motu Patlu, Selfie with Bajrangi, Titoo, Dabangg and several other Indian and international shows, at over USD 90 million. NewQuest has bought out the stake held in the company by KKR Emerald Media, which has exited with “handsome returns†on its initial investment. GCA acted as exclusive financial advisor to Cosmos-Maya and its shareholders. SNG & Partners and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas were the legal advisors to the deal. EY and BDO acted as due diligence and transaction tax advisors.
