Assam govt may take 20% stake in Neyveli UP Power project

The Assam government, through Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd, has asked for a 20% stake in Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd, a joint venture of NLC India Ltd and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. NLC India Ltd has a 51% stake in the joint venture which is putting up a 1,980 MW, coal-fired thermal power plant at Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh. NUPPL's project comprises three supercritical thermal power plants of 660 MW each. Assam, which was to get some of the power, has expressed its willingness to take a 20% stake in the company.
