Sorin Investments makes first close of VC fund at $100-M

Sorin Investments, a VC fund founded by Sanjay Nayar, will be raising USD 135 million aimed at investing in IT and technology startups in India. The fund has made its first close of USD 100 million and has started evaluating companies for potential investments. Sorin will invest between USD 2 million and USD 10 million in each company and intends to build a portfolio of 10-15 companies over a couple of years. Sorin will focus on Series A and B investments. The fund plans to be active across sectors but will have a few core sectors such as fintech, health tech, D2C, ecommerce, B2BTech and SaaS. Bengaluru-based Sorin hired Mandar Dandekar, an investment principal from Kalaari Capital as a partner. It also hired Anshul Bansal from Fireside Ventures and Harshita Kochchar from DAM Capital (formerly IDFC Securities).
