Bengaluru- and California-based space technology startup Pixxel has raised USD 36 million in primary capital in a Series B funding round led by Google. The round also saw participation from Pixxel's existing investors Radical Ventures, Lightspeed, Blume Ventures, GrowX, Sparta and Athera. Pixxel develops and launches hyperspectral imagery satellites, which take a spectrum of light and divides it into hundreds of narrow spectral bands so one can better understand and discern details at a micro level. The startup plans to use the new funds for developing satellites and infrastructure as it plans multiple launches early in 2024. Six "Firefly" satellites are planned in 2024 and 18 others in 2025. The funds will also be used to develop Aurora, the firm's AI-powered analytics platform, which aims to make hyperspectral imagery analysis accessible to everyone.

From the Venture Intelligence PE-VC Deal Database: Between May-19 and Aug-22, Pixxel had attracted over USD 35 M from Radical Ventures, Blume Ventures, Lightspeed Ventures, Athera Venture Partners, Growx Ventures, Blume Ventures, Lightspeed Ventures, Accenture Ventures, others.
