Edtech firm Scaler acquires online learning platform AppliedRoots for $50-M

Pune-based edtech firm Scaler has acquired Hyderabad-based online learning platform AppliedRoots for USD 50 million in a cash and stock deal. Scaler expects the deal to strengthen its data science, AI and ML capabilities. The acquisition, its third in the last 12 months, comes two months after it raised USD 55 million in Series B funding from investors led by Lightrock India. Last year, it acquired Coding Minutes and Coding Elements. AppliedRoots was bootstrapped by Srikanth Varma Chekuri, Murali Krishna Varri, Naveen Reddy Bade, Brahma Reddy, Srinivas Reddy and Satish Atcha. It offers an online diploma course in AI and ML.

From the Venture Intelligence PE-VC Deal Database: Between Apr-19 and Feb-22, Scaler Academy raised $76.5 M from Lightrock India, Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital India, Rocket Internet, and others.
