South Africa’s Sanlam Group hikes stake in Shriram Life Insurance to 52%

South Africa-based Sanlam has increased its stake to a majority holding in the life insurance firm Shriram Life Insurance . The insurer received a primary capital infusion of approximately INR 310 crore from partners Sanlam and the Shriram Group, alongside a buyout of existing investors. Following this transaction, Sanlam’s stake in the company rose to 52.05% as of June 2026, up from approximately 38% in December 2025.The company intends to utilize the newly raised capital to strengthen its balance sheet and support growth initiatives, including technology upgrades, distribution partnerships, and the development of tailored insurance products.Shriram Life Insurance currently emphasizes expansion into rural markets and is pursuing partnerships with private banks to supplement its existing distribution network of cooperative and regional rural banks.

For FY25, Shriram Life Insurance had reported about INR 94.71 crore in Operating Income and about INR 65.55 crore in PAT.
